CCTV Technology:
Today, high-tech equipment allows for convenience and concealment. Smaller cameras are now available having lenses that fit into a peephole and smaller. The cameras themselves can fit within the palm of your hand. Video Time Recorders (VTRs) have the ability to do time lapse and date-time stamping where legal proof may be of importance. A typical VCR tape may be used for up to a week of continuous recording, before being replaced, that normally only serves 2 hours in a home VCR. Cameras view in black & white, and color, as well as monitors with resolution superior to a home television. Switches may control the amount of time a camera within a multi-camera system may view a scene or even function at all. Motorized controllers may now pan and tilt cameras to pick out a view of interest while a camera lens zooms for a closer look. Environmental enclosures protect the cameras from the weather and unusual conditions. And all this can even be done remotely, and without wires! Cameras may serve as a supplement to other announcement or security equipment. A lens in today’s cameras may have a ‘sweet spot’ where any motion within it’s set perimeter may serve to trigger an alarm, operate the VTR, switch the view to the present location, activate another piece of equipment, notify a pager, or to summon professional help. All this can be transmitted over normal telephone wiring or cellular phone service.
Computerized CCTV:
PC CCTV is derived from the equipment that has been used for years in the closed circuit TV industry along with the power of the personal computer and the Internet. Now you may view any site or situation from within the confines of your office or home, or any other location in the world including mobile, if a ‘dial up
or Internet connection’ can be maintained. This means you may actually have the same control and viewing ability as though you had been located on the premises. The software to control such equipment requires no stand-alone system, rather operates within the popular operating system of today’s PCs as any other program. This allows for flexibility and versatility.
